After the Mad Hatter tries to cut Alice's hair, she runs away and finds herself in a garden. After a croquet match there, Alice angers the Queen of Hearts, who orders that her head be cut off. CARROLL LEWIS Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, conocido como Lewis Carroll, nació el 27 de enero de 1832 en Daresbury, Cheshire, Inglaterra. Desde joven mostró gran talento para las matemáticas y la escritura. Estudió en la Universidad de Oxford, donde obtuvo el grado de bachiller y fue nombrado profesor de matemáticas en Christ Church. En 1861 fue ordenado diácono, aunque nunca llegó a ejercer como sacerdote. Carroll padecía de tartamudez y sordera en un oído, lo que afectó sus relaciones sociales. Fue un apasionado de la fotografía, especialmente de retratos infantiles, y cultivó amistades con varias niñas, entre ellas Alice Liddell, quien inspiró su obra más famosa. Durante un paseo en barca en 1862, Carroll narró a Alice y sus hermanas una historia fantástica que luego se convertiría en "Alicia en el País de las Maravillas", publicada en 1865. Su continuación, "A través del espejo y lo que Alicia encontró allí", apareció en 1871. Además escribió poesía, como "La caza del Snark", y textos matemáticos y lógicos. Su estilo literario se caracteriza por el uso del absurdo, la lógica paradójica y el humor. Carroll nunca se casó y mantuvo una vida privada reservada. Murió el 14 de enero de 1898 en Guildford, Surrey, a causa de una neumonía.
