CARROLL LEWIS Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, conocido como Lewis Carroll, nació el 27 de enero de 1832 en Daresbury, Cheshire, Inglaterra. Desde joven mostró gran talento para las matemáticas y la escritura. Estudió en la Universidad de Oxford, donde obtuvo el grado de bachiller y fue nombrado profesor de matemáticas en Christ Church. En 1861 fue ordenado diácono, aunque nunca llegó a ejercer como sacerdote. Carroll padecía de tartamudez y sordera en un oído, lo que afectó sus relaciones sociales. Fue un apasionado de la fotografía, especialmente de retratos infantiles, y cultivó amistades con varias niñas, entre ellas Alice Liddell, quien inspiró su obra más famosa. Durante un paseo en barca en 1862, Carroll narró a Alice y sus hermanas una historia fantástica que luego se convertiría en "Alicia en el País de las Maravillas", publicada en 1865. Su continuación, "A través del espejo y lo que Alicia encontró allí", apareció en 1871. Además escribió poesía, como "La caza del Snark", y textos matemáticos y lógicos.
