MORANTE ELSA Elsa Morante nació en Roma el 18 de agosto de 1912. Con dieciocho años, la joven dejó la universidad y empezó a publicar sus primeros cuentos en revistas y periódicos. En 1936 conoció a Alberto Moravia y en 1941 se casó con él. Moravia, acusado de actividades antifascistas, se vio obligado a trasladarse al sur de Italia, y Elsa lo acompañó mientras redactaba la primera versión de la novela Mentira y sortilegio Lumen, 2016; 2023 , que Einaudi publicó en 1948. En 1949, la pareja volvió a Roma y, en 1957, Morante publicó La isla de Arturo Lumen, 2017; 2021 , galardonada ese año con el Premio Strega. En 1963 apareció la colección de cuentos El chal andaluz Lumen, 2023 y, en 1968, los poemas y canciones que componen El mundo salvado por los niños. En 1974 Morante publicó La historia Lumen, 2018 , que enseguida fue motivo de polémica y cosechó un éxito extraordinario y que próximamente se convertirá en serie de televisión de la mano de Francesca Archibugi. Le siguió Araceli en 1982 Lumen, 2022 , pero la fractura de un fémur obligó a la autora a guardar cama. La lesión derivó en una hidrocefalia aguda; Elsa ya no podía caminar y en 1983 intentó suicidarse. Encerrada en la habitación de una clínica, a menudo incapaz de reconocer a los amigos de siempre, lejos de Moravia, Elsa Morante murió acompañada solo de sus recuerdos y delirios el 25 de noviembre de 1985.
