Sinopsis	MURDER IN THE CATHEDRAL Murder in the Cathedral, written for the Canterbury Festival in 1935, was one of T. S. Eliot's first dramatic achievements, and it remains one of the great plays of the century. It takes as its subject matter the martyrdom of Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury, depicting the events that led to his assassination, in his own cathedral church, by the knights of Henry II in 1170. Like Greek drama, the play's theme and form are rooted in religion, ritual purgation and renewal, and it was this return to the earliest sources of drama that brought poetry triumphantly back to the English stage at the time. This anniversary edition marks 850 years since Becket's dramatic murder, and eighty-five years since Eliot's play was first performed. T.S. ELIOT Thomas Stearns Eliot was born in 1888 in St. Louis, Missouri, and became a British subject in 1927. The acclaimed poet of The Waste Land, Four Quartets, and Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, among numerous other poems, prose, and works of drama, won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1948. T.S. Thomas Stearns Eliot San Luis, Misuri, 1888 - Londres, 1965 estudió en Harvard y en 1915 decidió instalarse en Londres, donde, de la mano de Ezra Pound, entró en contacto con los círculos vanguardistas de la época y publicó su primer poemario, Prufrock y otras observaciones 1917 . La aparición de La tierra baldía en 1922, así como la de sus ensayos recopilados en El bosque sagrado un año antes, lo convirtieron en el poeta y crítico más influyente de su generación. Después de trabajar un tiempo en un banco, en 1924 fue contratado como director editorial en la recién fundada Faber and Faber, donde permaneció hasta su muerte. En 1943 publicó Cuatro cuartetos, la secuencia poética en la que había estado trabajando desde 1935. En 1948 ganó el premio Nobel de Literatura.
