FERNANDO PESSOA Fernando António Nogueira Pessoa 13 June 1888 - 30 November 1935 was a Portuguese poet, writer, literary critic, translator, publisher, and philosopher, described as one of the most significant literary figures of the 20th century and one of the greatest poets in the Portuguese language. He also wrote in and translated from English and French. Pessoa was a prolific writer, and not only under his own name, for he created approximately seventy-five others, of which three stand out: Alberto Caeiro, Álvaro de Campos, and Ricardo Reis. He did not call them pseudonyms because he felt that this did not capture their true independent intellectual life and instead called them heteronyms. PESSOA FERNANDO Fernando Pessoa nació en Lisboa el 13 de junio de 1888 y murió en la misma ciudad el 30 de noviembre de 1935. Fue educado en torno a la burguesía lisboeta fuertemente influenciada por el mundo anglosajón. De joven vivió durante varios años en Durban Sudáfrica. Su manejo en la lengua inglesa le valió trabajos como traductor y responsable internacional en diversas empresas de exportación. Escribió varios artículos en revistas culturales de la época y frecuentó los círculos literarios y artísticos de Lisboa. Apenas publicó en vida, lo que ha provocado que no sea hasta hace tres décadas cuando su legado y figura como escritor sean plenamente reconocidos tras la publicación en 1982 de Libro del desasosiego. Desde entonces, se han descubierto nuevos textos guardados en diversos baúles atesorados por sus herederos, que han enriquecido la obra literaria de un autor único.
