Antes de dedicarse a la escritura dirigía una empresa tecnológica, pero a los 30 años comenzó a escribir de manera profesional. Autopublicó su primera novela The Shadow of What Was Lost en 2014 y poco después firmó contrato con Orbit Books para publicar la trilogía completa conocida como The Licanius Trilogy, que incluye An Echo of Things to Come en 2017 y The Light of All That Falls en 2019.
