Su padre pertenece a la nación Wiradjuri, y esa herencia cultural influye profundamente en su obra. Su primera novela, Swallow the Air 2006 , recibió múltiples premios literarios en Australia por su estilo vívido y su sensibilidad social. También ha publicado After the Carnage 2016 , una colección de relatos breves que exploran temas personales y políticos con gran fuerza emocional. Ha vivido entre Australia y Francia, y fue seleccionada en 2008 para el programa Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, donde fue guiada por el Nobel Wole Soyinka.
